Language - Persuasive Writing

From now until the Christmas break we are focusing on persuasive writing. We have combined our knowledge about letter writing with persuasion by writing a letter to the teachers explaining why they want to go to "We Day".

Today they started brainstorming ideas for a writing assignment called "Santa, I Can Explain!" For this activity, students assume the role of a famous/infamous villain and write a letter to Santa explaining why they don't deserve to be on the naughty list. This includes having to explain away all of the bad things that they did (ex: The Big Bad Wolf could say: Sorry Santa! It was all a misunderstanding, I didn't mean to blow down their houses, I was just having an asthma attack! etc.). The 6's are all so excited! Ask your child which villain their writing from the perspective of.

Yellow Assessment Folders

The assessment folders are coming home this week. If you came to interviews, your child has already received theirs. I have conferenced with each student about how they are doing in Math and Language.
