Weekly Update

Once again, I hope you and your families are all doing well and keeping safe. This continues to be an incredibly stressful time and affects each of us differently. Keeping this in mind and adhering to the Ministry's suggestion of providing 5 hours of academics every week, the gr.6 team has worked to put together a weekly suggested work load. Please know that any of the work given out is up to your discretion and is not considered "mandatory". However, we will be providing some feedback, and some of the work can also be used towards improving final marks.

As this only covers Math and Language, students can anticipate about an hour per subject, per week. This allows time to be spent on the other focus subjects (French, Social Studies, Science and Religion).

Math Priority/Focus: We will add to the existing slide deck (Lesson #2) on Tuesday morning. Slides will be labelled according to the weekly lesson. Here students will see the lesson/instruction and practice work for that week. The directions for that week will be stated in the slide deck.

Again, students are asked to share their math work in their "Math Folder" through Google Drive/Hapara. Students are asked to add to their existing folder so there is only ONE running google doc and separate their work with sub headings for each section. This can also be done by adding pictures of their work into a running Google Doc, labelled with the week and lesson. It is whatever works best for you and your family.

Language Priority/Focus Novel Study - The One and Only Ivan (section 8 will be added Tuesday morning)

Students are familiar with this work process. There is a Google Slide deck shared with them with the work expectations on each section of this novel. However, since we cannot read this aloud together, we have recorded an audio clip (Ms. Juneau) of the section and attached it to the slide deck. This week, everyone should be one Section 8; look for that slide, click the audio file, listen to the section of the novel and then answer the questions.

Completed work can be dropped in their Language folder. Students are asked to keep ONE running google doc and separate their work with sub headings for each section.

We should have fewer questions this week as we are working out the bugs/errors in our work. Once again, I will be available to answer any questions (good work last week, everyone) and help them sort things out through email (if needed I will call your child to answer questions).

I will continue to give you weekly updates as this continues on. Please remember if the work becomes too stressful - to take a break that week, or only do some of it, or none of it. Our main concern is you and your family's well-being and mental health.

Take this weekend to unplug, relax (to the best of your ability) and enjoy the small things this Easter weekend. After today at 3:30, I will be checking my emails and available for communication again on Tuesday morning.

Wishing you all a safe and healthy long weekend.

Thoughts and Prayers,

Ms. Juneau
